ABOUT

Tūākiri Charitable Trust

Tūākiri Charitable Trust was established in February 2014 to deliver the Te Toa Matataki (TTM)
Transition to Independence residential programme.

Tūākiri Charitable Trust was registered and incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 and
was granted approval and recognition as a Child and Family Support Service pursuant to section 396
of the Children Young Persons and Their Families Act 1989.

Our Story

Tūākiri means Independence or to “stand strong in ones skin” – the very name of our Trust
encapsulates all we aim to achieve, to provide care options to tamaiti and rangatahi that support,
encourage and empower them to move into a life of independence. Our organisational values not
only guide our work but are also the fundamental skills, qualities and attributes we hope to instil in
the Tamaiti and Rangatahi that enter our service.

In July 2017, Tūākiri Charitable Trust was contracted and funded by Oranga Tamariki as the first
community remand home in Aotearoa- New Zealand. Tūākiri Charitable Trust later became the first
Kaupapa Maori Care to Transition service in July 2020 and more recently launched a Supported
Accommodation service in May 2024.
